Protecting the Blessed Sacrament.

FRANCIS CARDINAL GEORGE informs us that there have been a number of unfortunate instances recently in which the Holy Eucharist was disrespected. These incidents have occurred both nationally (a consecrated Host was put up for auction on Ebay) as well as in our own Archdiocese of Chicago. For this reason, he reminds all extraordinary ministers of Communion to make sure the Sacred Host is consumed in front of the minister by the person who received it. No one is to take a consecrated Host outside the Church except for a designated minister going to visit the sick and homebound. We have a serious responsibility to ensure the Blessed Sacrament is protected from those who seek to desecrate or abuse it.
