The loss of a beloved spouse can be the most devastating experience in life. Loneliness, confusion, fear, a loss of self-esteem, regret, and even guilt can all build up as the widow or widower struggles to adjust to life alone. Where can you go for help? Does anyone truly understand your pain? Is it possible to ever know joy and love again?
In response to these concerns, the Archdiocese of Chicago's Joyful Again Widowed Ministry is offering several fall weekend retreats for men and women grieving the loss of a spouse. Led by specially trained and experienced bereavement counselors, the program provides a safe place where you can express yourself with people who truly understand your pain. Whether you are newly widowed or lost your spouse years ago, these programs are designed to provide the spiritual, psychological, and emotional support needed as part of the grieving process.
The 2019 schedule includes:
September 7 and September 8 - Mary, Queen of Heaven in Elmhurst
October 12 and October 13 - St. Hubert's in Hoffman Estates
November 2 and November 3 - Nazareth Retreat House in Batavia
Pre-registration is required. There is a fee of $85 to cover the cost of materials and five meals. If you would like to participate or require additional information, you can go to the website at
