Have you ever thought about studying Latin? Did you study Latin in school but need a refresher course? Would you like an enhanced understanding of the Church's main language, history, and heritage? The annual fall session of the Latin language program will be offered again at St. John Cantius Church in Chicago. All classes will meet on Sundays in the Church Canonry at 1025 W. Fry Street (enter the building from the south door between the Church and the Canonry). The term begins October 1, 2017, and continues through January 7, 2018. Please note there are no classes on November 26 or December 24 due to the holidays. There is a fee of $50 for the class, and $50 for the text book. Students must register on the first day of class.
LATIN I: Beginner Level (10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.)
For the complete beginner with no prior knowledge of Latin required. Classes will encompass conjugation of verbs, declension of nouns/adjectives, and an introduction to reading and writing in Latin. LATIN II: Beginner Level Continued (9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.)
For the beginner who has had some basic Latin study. Classes will encompass additional conjugation of verbs, declension of nouns/adjectives, and the introduction to Latin vocabulary. The text is Collin's "A Primer of Ecclesiastical Latin." Students will begin at Unit 6 of the text book after a review of Units 1-5. Mr. Joseph Latham will be the instructor. LATIN III: Intermediate Level (9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.)
This class is for the student who is already familiar with rudimentary Latin with conjugation of verbs, declension of nouns/adjectives, basic vocabulary, and who has also completed at least two semesters of basic Latin. Students will continue to use Collin's "A Primer of Ecclesiastical Latin" text book. The class will begin at Unit 21 of the text book after a review of Units 1-20.
