In 2013, Chicago-based artist Susan Aurinko traveled to France for a photographic expedition. While visiting the Loire Valley, she toured a 12th Century chateau that had once been the temporary home of one of France's patron saints - St. Joan of Arc (1412-1431). Captivated by the legend of this amazing young woman - the "Maid of Orleans" - Susan made many more trips to France to photograph the places where Joan lived, prayed, and fought throughout her brief life. The resulting pictures have now been combined and layered to create the extraordinary images presented in the new exhibition, "Searching for Jehanne - The Joan of Arc Project." This exciting photographic display explores the iconographic nature of this extraordinary saint as she has been presented through popular culture, literature, feminism, and theology.
"Searching for Jehanne - The Joan of Arc Project" will be offered at the Loyola University Museum of Art (LUMA), 820 N. Michigan Avenue in Chicago.
