Msgr. Dario Vigano, prefect of the Secretariat for Communications at the Vatican, announced that Pope Francis debuted his first Instagram account on March 19. This announcement comes just a few weeks after the Pontiff’s February 26 meeting with Kevin Systrom, Instagram’s CEO and co-founder. Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing, and social networking service that allows its users to post and share their photographs and videos through a variety of social networks such as Twitter or Facebook.
The Holy Father’s new account is named “@Franciscus.” The very first photograph posted was a picture of Pope Francis kneeling in prayer. His Twitter account already has 25 million followers and is available in 10 languages. Check it out!
