Are you looking to try a new form of prayer? Taize prayer services are now being offered at ASSUMPTION CHURCH, 323 W. Illinois Street in Chicago. Taize prayer is a quiet, unhurried form of prayer and meditation. The Taize form of prayer emerged from a community of monks in the Burgundy region of France in 1940. Named for the city where it originated, this inspiring form of special prayer was developed for people of all Christian backgrounds. The quiet, candlelit services feature a combination of simple chants sung repeatedly, quiet reflection, Sacred Scripture readings, and prayers of praise, thanksgiving, and intercession. A background of meditative music invites God’s presence into our soul, and connects us with other Catholics in prayer all over the world. Taize teaches us to “keep inner silence always and you will dwell in Christ.” This inner silence “makes possible our conversation with God.” Even HIS HOLINESS, POPE JOHN PAUL THE GREAT, visited the Taize monastery and participated in this form of prayer.
The Taize prayer services will be conducted on the first Monday of every month beginning at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in the calming, reflective joy of the beautiful Taize prayers. If you have questions or require additional information, please telephone Assumption Church at (312) 644-0036.
